LOCAL EXCURSIONS
1. Bus excursion to Chemal: Stop at Arzhan-Suu spring. Souvenirs. Visiting of the weir of Chemal power station - the second power station in Russia built in 30-s of the 20th century. Nearby there are springs of "life" and "dead" water. After not long ascend to the viewing platform there will be opened to you a fine view on the merge of the Katun and Chemal rivers.
Mountain path will bring you to the currently opened nunnery and to the small church on the Pathmos Island, where you can go on the bridge over the Katun River.
Approximate duration is 4 hours.
2. Excursion to the Local History of the Altai Republic where you can learn about history, archeology and ethnography of Altai Mountains region, about painting of altai artists and about flora and fauna of Altai.
Approximate duration is 4 hours.
3. Bus excursion to Lake Manzherok. The lake is situated on an ancient terrace on the right shore of the River Katun. The level of the lake is higher than the river by 88 m, with an absolute height of 423 m. The length of the lake is 1112 m, its greatest width 400 m, for a total territory of 37.6 hectares. The lake has a gently sloping incline. The water of the lake is soft and sweet. The color - grey-green, weakly transparent. The temperature of the water in summertime is +22°Ñ, in deep waters somewhat lower. Water chestnut grow in Lake Manzherok, a species near extinction. Golden and silver carp and pike also live here.

The Workshop will be held in the village of Katun on the shores of Lake Aya (in the mountainous area of the Altai Region, whose center is the city of Barnaul).

The Altai Mountains are one of the most beautiful mountain areas in the world, praised for their pristine nature, beautiful mountains, waterfalls, mountain streams and lakes.

Lake Aya
Lake Aya - Pearl of the Altai - is located in a picturesque area on the left bank of Katun River. This is a very deep lake with crystal clear water which warms up in summer.

Hotel Aya
On the shore of Lake Aya, 18 kilometers from the city of Gorno-Altaisk (capital of the Republic of Altai), is located the comfortable hotel complex Aya, where the participants of the workshop will be housed. In the hotel is a conference room for conducting workshops.

Lake Teletskoe
For participants of the Workshop, an excursion is proposed of especially beautiful and notable places in the Altai Mountains:
• Environs of the Chemal River (Chemal Dam, Chemal Health Resort, Museum of Folk Art).
• Lakes: Aya, Manzherok.

The Chemal Dam
The Chemal Dam, the first dam in the Altai, was built in 1935 to supply the Chemal Health Resort with electricity. Located in a particularly picturesque site on the Chemal River.

Lake Manzherok
Lake Manzherok is most noted for an ancient plant remnant which grows there: water chestnut, preserved from ancient times - a wonderful souvenir of the Altai. One of a number of warm lakes in the Altai in which one may swim.

River Katun
River Katun is originating in the Katun glacier of legendary Mt. Belukha (4506 meters, 14,783 feet) the highest peak of Altai Mountains. It flows into the Ob River through beautiful Altai Mountains region.
